Teej Festival
Teej festival is the popular festival celebrated by the women’s in Nepal in the month of September. Married women observed Teej for the long life for their husband, well-beings of their children, purification of body and soul and maintain good relationship in marry until the death. In the same way Unmarried girls also observe fast on this day for a good husband. This festival is celebrated in great way by the women. The women sing the folk song and dances which makes the festival more interesting. Teej is also known by the HarTalika Teej. This festival is wonderful to see the women in Red dress and dancing and singing on the street, home and going to the temple to worship the Lord Shiva. Teej is celebrated by the Nepali women all across the world. Teej gives women an opportunity to dress like the newlywed. teej-1 Teej is celebrated for 3 days and each day has its own importance. The first day of Teej or eve of Teej is known as ‘Dar Khane Din’. On this day the married and unmarried women gather at one place and start sing, dance and have the special food known as the ‘Dar’. This programmer continues till midnight then after midnight the 24 hour long fasting beings. The second day is known as the Fasting day. In this day the women take ‘Nirjala’ fasting which means having without fruits and water. The married and unmarried women dressed themselves in red Saree, Dhotis and Kurta by making their way to the holy sites to worship Lord Shiva. In this day the women visit the different temple of Lord Shiva to worship but most of the women visit the Pashupatinath temple for worship. The women worship lord Shiva by offering flowers, sweets, coin. The women worship the idol of Shiva and Parvati for blessing upon their husband and family. The oil lamp is very important part of this fasting and puja which is lighted should be lit throughout the night to stay away from the bad sign.
